Privacy Policy for NinDS
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Introduction
NinDS ("we," "our," or "us") is an Android application for Nintendo DS emulation powered by the DSperate emulation core (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service accesses, stores, and shares.
Information We Do Not Collect
NinDS is designed to run locally on your device. We do not operate an account or analytics service, and we do not intentionally collect:
- Names, email addresses, or other personal identification information
- Contact lists or precise location data
- Advertising identifiers
- Usage analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or device identifiers for profiling
- Your game files, BIOS or firmware files, save data, or emulator state
Information Stored or Accessed Locally
To provide emulator functionality, NinDS may store or access the following on your device:
- App preferences, emulator settings, themes, and controller mappings
- Game library metadata, including game titles, game codes, banner icons, and file locations
- Game folders and files you explicitly choose through Android file-selection flows
- DS BIOS and firmware dumps that you explicitly import
- Unpacked copies of zipped games, kept in the app's cache so they open quickly
- Battery saves, save states and their thumbnails, and cheat lists
- The DS user profile you set in Settings (nickname, message, birthday, favourite colour, language), which is written into the emulated console's firmware settings
- Screenshots you take, saved to your device's Pictures/NinDS folder
- Downloaded box art and game title lists
Permissions and File Access
NinDS uses Android's Storage Access Framework so you can select the folder holding your games and import BIOS, firmware, cheat database, and save files. Access is governed by the files and folders you select; the app does not request broad storage permissions. NinDS also requests the internet permission, used only as described below, and the vibrate permission for haptic feedback on the on-screen controls. NinDS does not upload your selected game, BIOS, or firmware files.
Network Use and Third-Party Services
Core emulation works entirely offline. NinDS uses internet access only for the following:
- Box art and titles. When you show box art in the library or choose to download it, NinDS downloads cover images and GameTDB title lists from a repository hosted on GitHub. The requested file names identify the game codes of games in your library. GitHub may also receive standard connection information such as your IP address and user agent. Review GitHub's Privacy Statement for details.
- Online play (optional, off by default). When you turn on Wi-Fi internet in Settings, the game you are playing can connect to the internet through the emulated DS Wi-Fi, as it would on a real console. Online-enabled games connect to Wiimmfi, a community-run replacement for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and to any other servers the game itself contacts. These services receive what the game sends, which can include your DS nickname, friend codes, game progress, and an identifier for the emulated console, along with your IP address. NinDS does not control these services; review Wiimmfi's website for their terms.
The app does not send game files, BIOS or firmware files, save data, or emulator state to the box-art service.
Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell or share your personal data. NinDS does not operate a remote account or cloud-save backend. Standard network information is processed by GitHub only when it serves optional box-art files, and by online game services only when you turn on online play, as described above.
Data Retention and Deletion
App data, saves, save states, cached games, and downloaded box art are stored locally on your device. You can remove them by clearing NinDS's storage or uninstalling the app through Android system settings. The unpacked-games cache can also be cleared from Settings. Files you placed outside the app's storage, such as your original game files and screenshots, may need to be deleted separately using your device's file manager.
Device Backups
Depending on your Android device and backup settings, Android may include eligible NinDS app data in a system backup managed by your device or backup provider. You can manage or disable device backups in Android settings. NinDS does not operate its own backup or cloud-sync service.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
Because NinDS primarily stores data locally, its security depends on your device and the storage locations you select. Keep your device updated, use its available security features, and only install game files, BIOS dumps, and cheat databases from sources you trust.
No Games Included / Legal Notice
NinDS does not include games, BIOS files, firmware, or commercial artwork. Only use content you are legally permitted to use. NinDS is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.
Credits
NinDS is built on DSperate by Noxwell (beebono), licensed under GPL-3.0. Box art and game titles are provided by GameTDB. Full credits and open-source licences are listed in the app under Settings › About.
